STFP Launches Ecotourism Project for Conservation of Unique Indus River Dolphin

In order to develop the capacity of male members of Indus Dolphin Ecotourism Enterprise a one week training workshop was organized by STFP at Kot Addu.

A group of 10 male members from local community of Taunsa Barrage attended this 7 days training workshop on tour management skills from 05 to 11 August, 2015.   The training program was divided in to two parts comprising on procedural knowledge and technical skills which ecotourism guides should have to conduct a group of tourists in a professional manner.

Instructors from Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan conducted this training by using different teaching techniques about the skills of tourists’ group handling, leading a tour group in wilderness areas, giving commentary, answering the questions of visitors, making arrangements for transport, lodging and boarding, establishing good security of visitor, handling their complaints and dealing with general emergency situation etc. They were specially trained about conducting dolphin watching and bird watching trips without creating any disturbance in the natural habitat of wildlife.

These 10 trained tour guides have been enrolled with the Indus Dolphin Ecotourism Center at Taunsa Barrage for conducting all future ecotourism tours on a fixed daily rate for their services.
